DNS NAMESERVERS

The nameservers for your domain control the function of both email and web browser resolution.  There are two different ways you can configure your nameservers to direct the function of your domain to WebHostValue.com

1) Update or change your DNS nameservers to WebHostValue.com.

Here are our nameservers to update for your domain:

ns1.host-nameserver.com                   ( IP address -  216.121.134.159 )

ns2.host-nameserver.com                   ( IP address -  216.121.107.234 )

To update these nameservers, please go to your domain registrar and login to your account control panel.  Often you have direct access to your nameservers and can update them your self in your control panel.

Some domain registrars do not require the numerical IP addresses to update your nameservers - just the nameserver names, but other domain registrars may require them.  Please note that this is NOT a domain registrar transfer, it is an update of your nameservers.

Please note that it usually takes up to 48 hours for your new nameserver settings to be updated or propagated across the Internet.  This means that you can pre-configure your email and web site settings and even upload content to your site (see below) during this time, but both the email and web browser function won't go live until the new nameserver settings are propagated.

If you do not have access to update your nameservers, please send an email to tech support for your domain registrar with the following text:

"I have signed up for a new web hosting account with http://WebHostValue.com and request that you update the nameserver settings for my domain "domainname.com" to the following:

ns1.host-nameserver.com              216.121.134.159
ns2.host-nameserver.com
           216.121.107.234

Thank you!"

2) Configure IP Address Pointing to WebHostValue.com.

The first option above (updating nameservers) is usually the easiest and most common method of directing the function of your domain to WebHostValue.com. For more advanced users, another option is to configure IP Address Pointing.

After you receive your login and password information by confirmation email for your new account, login to your account and then click "Services" and then click on the domain name to access your web hosting Control Panel.  Your domain will be listed on the upper left hand corner of the screen with a numerical IP address listed under it.  This is your unique IP address for your web hosting account.  (This is different than the IP addresses mentioned above that are associated with our general nameservers).

Some domain registrars include the option of IP Address Pointing.  If you want to use this option configure IP Address Pointing using your unique IP Address found listed in your web hosting Control Panel.  This will direct both the email function and web browser function of your domain to WebHostValue.com, but you will continue to use the nameservers of your domain registrar.

Some benefits of IP Address Pointing may include avoiding the typical 48 hour time frame it takes for new nameservers to be fully updated or propagated across the Internet.  Also, some domain registrars may provide advanced management features that require you use their nameservers.

For advanced users, you can also use IP Address Pointing just for the web browser function of your domain, and keep the email function settings you have configured through your domain registrars control panel.

PUBLISHING YOUR WEB SITE

Publishing Before Nameservers Are Updated

While waiting for your new nameservers to update or propagate (see above), you can pre-configure your web site by uploading content using the unique IP address for your domain.

Login to your web hosting account - click "Services" and then click on the domain name to access your web hosting Control Panel.  Your domain will be listed on the upper left hand corner of the screen with a numerical IP address listed under it.  This is your unique IP address for your web hosting account.  (This is different than the IP addresses mentioned above that are associated with our general nameservers).

Before your nameservers are updated, you can use this IP address as your publishing destination for Front Page publishing (see below for Front Page installation instructions) and possibly FTP uploading depending on your web design software.  By pre-configuring content in this way, when your nameservers are updated your web site will go live with your content.

Publishing After Nameservers Are Updated

After your nameservers are propagated, you can use your web site address (http://mydomainname.com) as the publishing destination for Front Page publishing (see below for Front Page installation instructions).

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) uploading you can use the following directories where "myusername" is your user name.

Home Directory created : /usr/home/username

FTP Home Directory for Web Pages : /usr/home/username/www
